High Performance: 4,2 Gbit/s Firewall Throughput

The GeNUScreen 2.2 Firewall & VPN Appliance now provides increased performance and new functions

Kirchheim near Munich, 16th May 2011. The new version 2.2 of the GeNUScreen Firewall & VPN Appliances manufactured by GeNUA IT security specialists come with significantly increased throughput: GeNUScreen 700 version provides a firewall throughput of up to 4.2 Gbit/s and an encrypted VPN throughput of up to 2.5 Gbit/s: the comparable values of the previous model being 2.7 and 1.1 Gbit/s respectively. In addition, new functions now allow comfortable network linking via virtual private networks (VPN) – without the time-consuming synchronization of internal IP addresses. The reliable security provided by the GeNUScreen Firewall and VPN Appliance is demonstrated by their regularly meeting the demands of CC EAL 4+ certification, and their approval for “EU restricted“ (VS-NfD) classified data communication.

The new release provides a VPN throughput of up to 2.5 Gbit/s

GeNUA placed particular emphasis during the development of the GeNUScreen 2.2 on improving performance and extending its VPN features. This allowed the data throughput of the most powerful 600, 700 and 800 GeNUScreen versions to be increased considerably: depending on packet size, the VPN performance for encrypted data transfer via the Internet increased by between 100 and 500 percent, and the firewall performance by 50 percent. These transfer rates allow truly high performance VPNs to be set up. Furthermore, as the security of such networks is centrally administered from a GeNUCenter Management Station, the configuration and operation of large VPNs with hundreds of clients can be easily carried out. In addition, a new function makes the integration of new clients in the VPN easier: the GeNUScreen 2.2 can automatically rewrite internal IP addresses and thereby establish unique communications paths between networks that are not known to each other. This means, for example, that networks at other company locations, or those belonging to business partners or customers, can be included in a VPN without having to transfer a single IP address.

“EU Restricted” Certification

GeNUScreen 2.1 is approved for “EU restricted” communication and can therefore be used by government and public safety organizations for the exchange of restricted data via VPN. The “EU restricted” certification procedure for version 2.2 is under way and is due to be completed in the summer. In addition, the quality of GeNUA security solutions has been verified by the Federal German Office for Information Security (BSI) who have granted approval according to the Common Criteria (CC) international standard requirements. GeNUScreen has already been certified as meeting the CC at the EAL 4+ level. This is the highest level of certification that can be fully applied to a complex system such as a firewall. Seven models are available in the GeNUScreen series of firewall & VPN Appliances, covering all possible performance requirements. Prices start at 1,495 euros for the compact GeNUScreen 100C.
