Kirchheim near Munich / Berlin, September 24, 2026 – genua GmbH, a company of the Bundesdruckerei Group, has received the Supplier Award from BWI GmbH in the “Innovation Driver of the Year” category. BWI, the German Armed Forces’ IT systems provider, presented the award on September 1, 2026, at the BWI Industry Days 2026 at KOSMOS in Berlin. The award recognized the development of a virtualized PAP-I infrastructure, through which genua has drastically reduced the hardware and space requirements of central IT security systems for digital communications infrastructures.
In its statement, the BWI emphasized that genua not only accepted the challenge but also proactively expanded on the concept and implemented it in a remarkably short time. Furthermore, the BWI commended the solution-oriented approach: the development of practical and immediately effective features within an innovative technical concept, along with the willingness to proceed directly to implementation.
Complete P-A-P structure including IDS in a single rack unit
The award was given for the project “Implementation of a ‘virtual PAP-I infrastructure’ product solution to reduce space requirements in a target overall system eligible for accreditation by DEUmilSAA.”
The technical requirements were demanding: A complete, VS-NfD-compliant packet filter–application-level gateway–packet filter (P-A-P) structure plus threat detection had to be implemented on a single rack unit. Added to this were the automation of the entire lifecycle—from installation and configuration to update mechanisms—as well as the goal of making the overall system eligible for DEUmilSAA accreditation.
BSI-approved, virtualized IT security products
This solution is relevant wherever the size, weight, and installability of IT systems are of particular importance. genua has addressed precisely these requirements with its BSI-approved, virtualized IT security products. As a result, the developed solution requires significantly less hardware and occupies only one rack unit (1 RU) in the rack. The entire system is thus significantly lighter and more mobile than previous solutions.
